General Information!

The Volunteer Program at Banner Baywood Medical Center and Banner Heart Hospital is a great way to experience the hospital environment for those aspiring a career in the medical profession. It is also a wonderful opportunity for students acquiring volunteer educational hours, letters of recommendations for schools/colleges, and possible shadowing opportunities of physicians and physician assistants. Most of all, it is for anyone who wishes to assist by giving of their time and talents to those patients and visitors seeking comfort during a stressful time in their lives.

There are several volunteer roles available to choose from: Clerical, Dietary, Housekeeping, Gift Shop, Surgery, Main Information Desk(s), Admitting, Nursing Units, Emergency Department (must be 18 years of age or older), Courtesy Golf Cart Shuttle Drivers (must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license), Dog Therapy (must have their own certified therapy dog) Reiki Therapy (must be certified at the master level) Piano/Violin/Guitar, etc. and many more!

There are a variety of shifts to accommodate an individual’s busy schedule. With an expectation of volunteering consistently a minimum of once a week for 4 hours. Shifts typically are: 8 am – Noon, Noon – 4 pm and 4 pm – 8 pm. However, shifts can vary depending upon the location of volunteering.

Volunteers will be assigned to a role that works best for them and for the needs of the hospital. New volunteers will receive an initial orientation/training session with a seasoned volunteer to learn their new role.


Banner Baywood Teen Volunteer Requirements

  • Be between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age (must be 14 at the time application is submitted).
  • Volunteer with a parent or guardian, if under the age of 15.
  • Complete and return the application to the Volunteer Services Department (return information on Teen Onboarding Paperwork).
  • Submit two letters of recommendation (forms provided), from a teacher, counselor, advisor, group leader, religious leader or employer.
  • Attend a three-hour orientation with one of your parents or legal guardian to learn about hospital policies and volunteer program requirements.
  • Agree to complete health screening requirements: an annual TB skin test, current immunization records that should include MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) and chicken pox.
  • Agree to serve one four-hour shift per week for a minimum of 100 hours

If you are interested in volunteering at the Banner Baywood Medical Center and Heart Hospital Campuses, please fill out the Banner Health Interest Form (https://forms.gle/kKnrdxzjyQVkaGeh7). Then, respond in writing to the attached interview questions, review the Volunteer Handbook in its entirety, and complete the corresponding paperwork by signing/dating acknowledging that you have read and understood the handbook.
